Ballinderry Park liegt in ruhiger Landschaft im Osten der Grafschaft Galway, nahe Ballinasloe – und doch sind die Sehenswürdigkeiten des Westens Irlands nie weit. Ein Schlachtfeld aus dem Jahr 1691 und eine Craft-Destillerie liegen wenige Minuten vom Tor entfernt; das mittelalterliche Athenry, die Klosterstadt Clonmacnoise und das Seestädtchen Portumna erreichen Sie mit einer kurzen Autofahrt; und die Stadt Galway mit ihren Festivals und Meeresfrüchten ist ein entspannter Tagesausflug. Schlachtfeld von Aughrim
Nur wenige Minuten entfernt fand 1691 die entscheidende Schlacht von Aughrim statt, die den Krieg zwischen Wilhelm von Oranien und Jakob II. beendete – der blutigste Kampftag der irischen Geschichte. Das Besucherzentrum erzählt die Geschichte der drei Könige und ihrer Armeen, ein ausgeschilderter Rundweg führt über das Schlachtfeld.
Ahascragh Distillery
Eine Craft-Destillerie für Whiskey und Gin in einer restaurierten Mühle aus dem 19. Jahrhundert im Dorf Ahascragh – eine der nachhaltigsten Destillerien Irlands. Führungen „vom Korn ins Glas“ mit Verkostung sind ein besonderer Ausflug für Gruppen; bitte vorab reservieren.
Ballinasloe & Garbally Demesne
Die nächstgelegene Stadt am Fluss Suck – Geschäfte, Pubs, Restaurants und Uferwege, dazu die bewaldeten Alleen des Garbally-Anwesens am Stadtrand für einen gemütlichen Spaziergang. Jeden Oktober findet hier die Ballinasloe Fair statt, einer der ältesten Pferdemärkte Europas.
Das Suck Valley
Das Anwesen liegt mitten im Suck Valley – eine stille Flusslandschaft mit Wander- und Radwegen, darunter der Fernwanderweg Suck Valley Way, sowie einige der besten Angelreviere Irlands am Fluss und seinen Seen.

Athenry
Eine der am besten erhaltenen mittelalterlichen Städte Irlands: Athenry besitzt noch seine Burg aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, über zwei Drittel der Stadtmauer mit einem erhaltenen Stadttor und ein Dominikanerkloster. Im interaktiven Athenry Heritage Centre können Besucher Rüstungen anprobieren und Bogenschießen ausprobieren – ein Spaß für Familien und Gruppen.
Loughrea
Eine Kleinstadt am See mit einem seltenen, noch wassergefüllten historischen Stadtgraben und der St Brendan’s Cathedral, einer Schatzkammer keltischer Glasmalerei und Bildhauerkunst. Am Loughrea Lake am Stadtrand gibt es einen Süßwasserstrand und schöne Uferwege.
Athlone
Athlone am Fluss Shannon hat eine normannische Burg und Sean’s Bar – laut Guinness-Buch der Rekorde der älteste Pub Irlands. Bootstouren auf nachgebauten Wikingerschiffen führen über den Shannon, auch flussabwärts nach Clonmacnoise. Athlone Castle wird derzeit umgebaut – bitte vor dem Besuch informieren.
Clonmacnoise
Das 544 an einer Flussschleife des Shannon gegründete Clonmacnoise ist eine der bedeutendsten frühchristlichen Klosterstätten Irlands – Rundtürme, Hochkreuze, Kirchen und eine der größten Sammlungen frühmittelalterlicher Grabplatten Europas. Ein wirklich bewegender Halbtagesausflug; das Besucherzentrum wird derzeit erneuert, bitte den Zugang vorab prüfen.
Portumna
Ein Städtchen am See, dort wo der Shannon in den Lough Derg mündet. Portumna Castle ist ein halb befestigtes Herrenhaus aus dem frühen 17. Jahrhundert mit restauriertem ummauertem Garten; der angrenzende Portumna Forest Park bietet markierte Wege am Seeufer, Damwild und eine kinderwagentaugliche Runde.

Ab etwa 40 Minuten Fahrt – vom Anwesen aus bequem an einem Tag zu schaffen.
Stadt Galway
Die Kulturhauptstadt des irischen Westens – das Latin Quarter mit seinen Kopfsteinpflastergassen, der Spanish Arch, die Kathedrale von Galway und die Promenade von Salthill, dazu eine berühmte Szene für Meeresfrüchte und traditionelle Musik. Ein entspannter Tagesausflug, am lebendigsten während der Sommerfestivals.
Coole Park
Das ehemalige Anwesen von Lady Gregory, Mitbegründerin des Abbey Theatre in Dublin, heute ein kostenlos zugängliches Naturschutzgebiet bei Gort. Waldwege führen zum berühmten „Autogrammbaum“ mit den eingeritzten Initialen von W. B. Yeats und anderen Persönlichkeiten der irischen Literaturbewegung.
Connemara & die Cliffs of Moher
Für einen größeren Ausflug: Jenseits von Galway warten die Berge von Connemara, die Atlantikküste und Kylemore Abbey; die Cliffs of Moher und die Karstlandschaft des Burren erreichen Sie bequem südwärts in der Grafschaft Clare. Wir helfen unseren Gästen gern bei der Routenplanung.
