Ballinderry Park se trouve dans la campagne paisible de l'est du comté de Galway, près de Ballinasloe – et pourtant, les sites de l'ouest de l'Irlande ne sont jamais loin. Un champ de bataille de 1691 et une distillerie artisanale sont à quelques minutes du portail ; Athenry la médiévale, la cité monastique de Clonmacnoise et la petite ville lacustre de Portumna sont à une courte distance en voiture ; et la ville de Galway, avec ses festivals et ses fruits de mer, se visite facilement en une journée. Champ de bataille d'Aughrim
À quelques minutes d'ici, Aughrim fut le théâtre de la bataille décisive de 1691 qui mit fin à la guerre entre Guillaume d'Orange et Jacques II – la journée la plus sanglante de l'histoire irlandaise. Le centre d'interprétation raconte l'histoire des trois rois et de leurs armées, et un sentier balisé traverse le champ de bataille lui-même.
Distillerie d'Ahascragh
Une distillerie artisanale de whiskey et de gin installée dans un moulin du XIXe siècle restauré, au village d'Ahascragh – l'une des distilleries les plus écoresponsables d'Irlande. Les visites guidées « du grain au verre » avec dégustation font une sortie pleine de caractère pour un groupe ; réservez à l'avance.
Ballinasloe et le domaine de Garbally
La ville la plus proche, au bord de la rivière Suck – boutiques, pubs, restaurants et promenades en bord de rivière, avec les allées boisées du domaine de Garbally en lisière pour une balade facile. Chaque mois d'octobre, la ville accueille la foire de Ballinasloe, l'une des plus anciennes foires aux chevaux d'Europe.
La vallée de la Suck
Le domaine est au cœur de la vallée de la Suck – une campagne paisible sillonnée de sentiers de randonnée et de pistes cyclables, dont le Suck Valley Way, un itinéraire de grande randonnée, ainsi que certains des meilleurs spots de pêche d'Irlande le long de la rivière et de ses lacs.

Athenry
L'une des villes médiévales les mieux conservées d'Irlande : Athenry a gardé son château du XIIIe siècle, plus des deux tiers de ses remparts avec une porte encore debout, et un prieuré dominicain. Au centre du patrimoine interactif, les visiteurs peuvent essayer une armure et s'initier au tir à l'arc – très amusant en famille ou en groupe.
Loughrea
Une ville au bord d'un lac, avec de rares douves historiques encore en eau et la cathédrale St Brendan, un véritable écrin de vitraux et de sculptures du renouveau celtique. Le lac de Loughrea, en lisière de la ville, offre une plage d'eau douce et d'agréables promenades sur ses rives.
Athlone
Sur les rives du Shannon, Athlone possède un château normand et le Sean's Bar, reconnu par le Guinness des records comme le plus vieux pub d'Irlande. Des excursions à bord de répliques de bateaux vikings naviguent sur le Shannon, y compris vers Clonmacnoise en aval. Clonmacnoise
Fondé en 544 sur un méandre du Shannon, Clonmacnoise est l'un des plus grands sites monastiques paléochrétiens d'Irlande – tours rondes, hautes croix, églises et l'une des plus importantes collections de dalles funéraires anciennes d'Europe. Une demi-journée vraiment émouvante ; le centre d'accueil est en cours de rénovation, vérifiez les conditions d'accès à l'avance.
Portumna
Une ville lacustre là où le Shannon rejoint le Lough Derg. Le château de Portumna est une demeure semi-fortifiée du début du XVIIe siècle avec un jardin clos restauré, et le parc forestier attenant propose des sentiers balisés au bord du lac, des daims et un parcours accessible aux poussettes.

La ville de Galway
La capitale culturelle de l'ouest de l'Irlande – les ruelles pavées du Latin Quarter, la Spanish Arch, la cathédrale de Galway et la promenade de Salthill, avec une scène réputée pour ses fruits de mer et sa musique traditionnelle. Une journée facile, particulièrement animée pendant les festivals d'été.
Coole Park
L'ancien domaine de Lady Gregory, cofondatrice de l'Abbey Theatre de Dublin, devenu une réserve naturelle en accès libre près de Gort. Suivez les sentiers forestiers jusqu'au célèbre « arbre aux autographes », gravé des initiales de W. B. Yeats et d'autres figures du renouveau littéraire irlandais.
Le Connemara et les falaises de Moher
Pour une grande journée d'excursion : au-delà de Galway s'étendent les montagnes du Connemara, la côte atlantique et l'abbaye de Kylemore, tandis que les falaises de Moher et le Burren se rejoignent facilement vers le sud, dans le comté de Clare.
